Fabric Lanyard and Badge Holder Free Sewing Pattern

Sewing a lanyard with a matching badge holder is a simple and practical project that’s perfect for using up scrap fabric while creating something both functional and stylish. I have shared some keychain sewing tutorials before, and if you love big handbags, I also shared some projects of sew bags tutorials. This tutorial from Sarah from Bombshell Bling can be divided into two easy-to-follow sections: the lanyard and the badge holder. For the lanyard, start by selecting a long strip of scrap fabric, about the length you prefer. Fold it in half lengthwise, press, and then fold each long edge toward the center crease to create a finished strap that’s narrow when sewn. Topstitch along both sides for durability and a clean look. Attach a swivel clasp or key ring to one end and secure it with a reinforced seam, completing your fabric lanyard. The badge holder section starts with two small rectangles of fabric and a piece of clear vinyl to create a window for your ID or badge. Sew the vinyl onto the front fabric piece, leaving the top open for easy access. Layer the front and back pieces right sides together, stitch around the edges (leaving a small opening), then turn it right side out and press. Topstitch around the entire holder for a finished edge and added strength, and insert a small grommet or reinforced loop at the top for attaching it to the lanyard. This set makes a great gift for teachers, nurses, students, or anyone who wears an ID badge daily, and it’s a fun way to give new life to your favorite fabric scraps while building your sewing skills. That way if you want to make just one of the pieces, it’s easy to see which supplies you’d need. If you want to make both the lanyard and the badge holder, these are all the supplies you’d need to pick up at the fabric store:
